Rumor: Gingerbread is Android 2.3 and coming out Nov 11

Andrew Lyle says:
"A trusted source has tipped off intomobile about the possibility of Android 2.3 Gingerbread being delivered on November 11. According to the source of the information, Gingerbread SDK will be available next week, which is just in time for the rumored Gingerbread-powered Nexus Two by Samsung.

It was previously thought that Gingerbread, the codename for the next Android version, was originally meant to be Android 3.0. However, Android 3.0 may now be branded as "honeycomb."

The imminent release of Gingerbread will bring numerous features, updates and bug fixes to Android-powered handsets, including a new screen-off animation, video chat, VoIP support and many other improvements.

Google has already given users a small taste of Gingerbread today, in the companies latest update to their mobile search. Users can now enjoy Instant Search on their mobile device on both iOS and Android devices. The optional feature works just like the desktop version does, showing search results as you type in the address field, a handy feature for mobile search users.

The Gingerbread man has already been seen on Google's campus, where the team unwrapped a giant lawn ornament. The Gingerbread man ornament now stands proudly with the other Android iconic figures, including a giant éclair, a donut, and a cupcake.

As with all rumors, take this information with a grain of salt."
